Concordia University Ann Arbor is committed to preparing child life specialists who employ evidence-based methods in integrative health care settings and settings where children and families impacted by illness, injury, and health care are served. The intent of the Child Life Master’s Program is to prepare men and women for a life of service, within the specialized area of Child Life. This program is designed to deepen understanding of child development and of the processes of supporting children and families during medical interventions, crises or hospitalization, in developmentally appropriate and in trauma informed ways.

This program takes place online and virtually.

Introduction to Child Life

Western Michigan University offers a Master of Arts in Family and Consumer Sciences (Child Life track) program, which prepares students to pursue a career in the child life profession. This 32-credit hour track (or 34 credit hour track if a Child Life practicum was not completed prior to entrance) involves course work aligned with recommendations and requirements of the Association of Child Life Professionals, the primary professional organization of child life specialists. The curriculum provides classroom and field experiences enabling students to build on skills and knowledge key to working as a child life professional. For more information, please visit:

In addition, we offer a CCLS taught course that is open to guest students. FCS 5510 – Families and Hospitalization I is offered on the Kalamazoo campus in the fall semester.
